As soon as you activate the maximum spin speed, the dry towel will begin to absorb moisture from your wet clothes, like a sponge in a washing machine. By the end of the cycle, the towel will feel heavy and damp, but your favorite t-shirt will be only slightly damp. A few minutes of airing or a quick ironing will be enough to dry it completely. The fewer clothes you load at once, the more spectacular the effect.
Smart spin and airflow
If you have to use the dryer anyway, it doesn’t matter how you load it. The most common mistake is piling clothes on top of each other, preventing air from passing through the layers. Always place the items you need most on the edge of the dryer or at an appropriate distance from the rest of your clothes.
It’s a good idea to turn your clothes inside out after a few hours. This is because water drains more slowly from the inside seams and thicker areas (like pockets or belts). Turning clothes inside out allows air to reach previously clogged areas. It’s also helpful to place your dryer in the driest area of your home or near a dehumidifier. The dryer absorbs moisture from your clothes, which not only speeds up drying but also keeps the air fresher.
When the iron becomes a dryer
Ironing is one of the oldest methods for removing residual moisture from clothes. If the fabric can withstand high temperatures, lay it slightly damp on an ironing board and iron it without setting the highest temperature. Don’t worry about the steam rising: it’s not coming from the iron, but from the water remaining in the clothes, which evaporates under the heat.
However, moderation is key: never use a higher temperature than indicated on the garment’s care label, as wet fibers can be more sensitive to washing. This method works particularly well for cotton shirts and T-shirts because, in addition to drying, it instantly removes wrinkles, leaving the garment ready to wear straight from the ironing board.
These simple tricks not only save time, but also help make moving around the house less stressful in winter. With a little attention and careful use of our appliances, we can avoid musty odors and long waits.
